Dove wrote a ground-breaking paper that changed the way we think about the causes of non-timber extraction deforestation. It was thought traditional slash and burn was the main culprit. He demonstrated that poor immigrants from other regions follow the roads, establishing farms along them, and that this was actually the biggest factor in this deforestation.
