![This is near Kawatiri Junction, south of Nelson on the South Island, New Zealand, December 2010. Years ago, my paternal grandmother was one of several women arrested here for protesting the mothballing of the railway to Nelson. Apparently the arresting policeman was sympathetic--on the ride to the police station in Nelson they stopped along the way in Wakefield for ice creams. Unfortunately, Nelson lost its railway anyway.
